Fly to the Kepler mountain tops and then hike back down on the Kepler Track.
The Kepler Heli-hike is one of our most popular trips. The Kepler Track is one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. It is a well-formed track and is easy to follow. It takes 4 days/ 3 nights to complete the whole track which is a total of 60km.
Fiordland Helicopters can help you see what the Kepler has to offer without walking the 60km hike!
Take a scenic helicopter flight across Lake Te Anau to Luxmore Hut on the Kepler Track with views the vast lake and the Kepler Mountains all around you. Once landed, you will begin one of the most scenic sections of the Kepler Track.
This section of the track is 8.2km long. Take in the incredible views on the open tops before walking 45mins to reach the bushline. From here, there is a steep downhill climb past towering limestone bluffs and then through mountain and silver beech forest.
A water taxi can pick you up at Brod Bay and take you across the lake back to Te Anau township or you can continue to walk…
This section of the track is a stroll through the beech forest along the shore of Lake Te Anau.. It should take about 1hr 30mins to complete. Covering 5.6km.
Continue to follow the path along the shore of lake Te Anau. This is a lovely walk that should take no longer than 45mins. About 10mins out of Te Anau you will come to the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary (Puanga manu o Te Anau). Here you can see the incredibly rare Takahe bird, only found in Fiordland, and once thought to be extinct.
